super noodle doodle sandwiches

H had a couple of sick days last week, which allowed her to watch some of her pre-kindergarten favorite daytime cartoons. Now that she's in school, she just doesn't have as much time to devote to TV. Boo hoo. :)

During an episode of Clifford (ironically, about watching too much TV), one of the characters produced these Super Noodle Doodle Sandwiches. He claimed he learned to make them on a cooking show. H thought they sounded yummy, so we tried them. I asked her to write down all the ingredients for me, so I could make sure we had everything. She wrote:
  • bread
  • noodles
  • lettuce
  • hamburger
  • cheese
  • spaghetti sauce
I was not too keen on noodles and bread in the same meal, but I really only needed to make a few noodles so the sandwiches could live up to their name. I decided to do, basically, spaghetti and meatballs on a bun. I used ground turkey for the patties (with a little marinara, parmesan, onion, basil, s&p and an egg thrown in), jarred marinara, parmesan for the cheese, and spinach instead of lettuce. For Hubs and I, I threw on a little grilled onion as well. Oh, and I also made some awesome homemade buns that I'll post tomorrow.

The buns got a yummy "garlic bread" treatment--just butter and garlic. But it really adds the perfect touch. Try garlic bread buns for your next burger--a little trick I learned from Zeke's Eatin' Place when Hubs and I lived in Arizona. (Zeke's = Best.Burger.Ever.)
We probably won't add the Super Noodle Doodles into our regular rotation, but it was fun for H to take an idea from a cartoon and see it come to life. I'm all about letting my kids explore their creativity on all different levels.

And, just for me, here's a photo of my pretty, lacy shredded Parmesan. Love it.
