blueberry pi

My husband recently celebrated his 10pi birthday—that is, the day he turned 31.4159265. . . by making himself a pie. My jeans and I are thankful he didn't make ten. He even made his own crust for the first time, this one from Cook's Illustrated. The secret ingredient is vodka, which adds liquid to the dough, but then evaporates for a flakier crust. It was thick, sturdy, flaky, buttery, and really yummy.

I love that he bakes pies. I think the secret to a good marriage is balance. A husband and wife need to balance each other—in personality, in temperament, in strengths and weaknesses.

He bakes pies. I bake cakes. We're the perfect match.
