photo exploration

I've taken more photographs since I started this blog, a year and a half ago, than the other thirty years of my life. I feel I've improved enough that I'm ready to make the jump to a DSLR. Every time I take a picture with my point-and-shoot, I just know the image could be significantly better with a serious camera.

So I've been researching like crazy, learning about cameras, lenses, and photography in general. I'm exploring all sorts of new-to-me photography blogs and forums, trying to absorb it all. I'm still trying to decide between two cameras (Nikon D90 and Canon 60D).

In the meantime, I'm using what I've got (Canon S5iS) to keep practicing. Today I took this photo for this week's I Heart Faces challenge. The theme is "Red," and the photo must contain a human face. I planned to photograph my reflection in a red valentine balloon, but this happy accident stole my heart instead.

Hope y'all had a happy Valentine's day!

Edited to add:
I Heart Faces is quite busy tonight. While I'm waiting, I'm linking this to Sweet Shot Tuesday as well.
