(drum roll please. . .) the wedding cake!

Towering eighteen inches above the cake plate, the wedding cake I made for my brother and his bride went off without a hitch. I did have some issues with the raspberry jam, and I see flaws in the cake due to sometimes-crippling perfectionism, but I am overall very pleased with the way it turned out. The floral topper chosen by the bride and groom was the perfect crowning jewel, and an exact color match to the double layered ribbon with hand-sewn (by me) rhinestones.

I got a lot of questions from my Pinterest pals when I began collecting inspiration for this winter wedding with a touch of red. “Who's getting married??” This is the wedding, folks. And it was absolutely beautiful.

The wedding venue was the gorgeous wine cellar of Pazzo Ristorante in downtown Portland, Oregon. The glow of the candles and strings of lights on the wine barrels and stacks of wine bottles was so warm and inviting. The food was fantastic, the service impeccable. The entire evening was intimate, joyous. . . just perfect.

There was no better setting around for such a beautiful bride. My brother is a smart guy. We're so glad they chose each other. I know they have a long, happy, adventurous life ahead of them. Congratulations, you two! And thank you for letting me be a part of your day.
