holiday baking has begun

As of yesterday afternoon, I have officially started my holiday baking....if you can call peppermint bark "holiday baking." Have you made peppermint bark? It is ridiculously easy.
  • Melt one bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips in one bowl–in the microwave–and one bag of white "chocolate" chips in another bowl.
  • Blob them separately on a parchment-lined rimmed baking sheet, and swirl together with a skewer, chopstick or something similar.
  • Sprinkle crushed peppermint candies on top and press in gently.
  • Allow to cool and harden at room temperature for a few hours.
  • Break into bite-sized pieces.
  • Quickly place them into an airtight container on a high shelf so they last until your guests arrive. :)
Peppermint and chocolate is one of my favorite combinations, second only to chocolate and peanut butter. Or even better–chocolate, peanut butter and pretzels. Yum. If there were awards for chocolate peanut butter confections, this would be award-winning.

Have you started your baking yet? What's on your treat list this year?

Peppermint bark..yumm-o! It reminds me of home in the NW at Christmas. Getting that here is like getting snow! Never will happen Also we dont own a microwave for easy prep! Every time I melt chocolate on the stove I make the biggest mess! Suggestions...love the blog btw!

Have you tried melting chocolate with a double boiler? Boil an inch or so of water in a saucepan, and reduce heat to medium, so it simmers. Then place a glass or metal bowl over the saucepan, making sure it stays above the water. (Test a few bowl/pan combos first to find the right size. Ideally the bowl should rest on the rim of the pan and the bottom of the bowl should go about halfway down into the pan.)

Good luck!

Thanks for the recipe, Marisa! Grace and I had fun making this yesterday. She loved swirling the chocolate and crushing the peppermint. And Coby and Mo had fun eating it!
