iridescence (the many shades of an anna's hummingbird)

Anna's 1

This little guy has been standing guard by my feeder for the past two days. When other hummingbirds come to feed, he bullies them away. I can't say I blame him—it's frighteningly cold and blustery, and he's a tiny little dude. I went out to swap the frozen feeder for a thawed one, and he buzzed at my elbow trying to drink from the fresh feeder while it was still in my hand.

It's hard to believe all these images are of the same hummingbird. One tiny little movement of his head shows a whole new set of colors.

Amazing.

It really is a pretty feeder! I've never seen a blue one before. I'm doing the same switch-feeder routine. I found they thaw quickly under warm running water, but switching is easier. Beautiful pictures of the little guys and gals! I just talk to them!!

Thanks, Britt!

Mom, I couldn't figure out how to run the feeders under warm water without diluting the hummer food. How do you do it?
